Your responsibilities:- There are legal aspects relating to a formal marriage so all documents must be completed accurately and truthfully. You must be over the age of eighteen (or seek appropriate permission to marry). You must have two witnesses for the wedding day who are both over eighteen. A form called a Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM) must be completed and lodged with me at least one month and a day prior to your marriage (and no earlier than 18 months before). You can download this form from www.ag.gov.au/celebrants and complete it prior to our meeting - (otherwise I will help you at our first meeting) when we will sign and date the document. A declaration must also be signed indicating that there is no legal reason why you cannot be married.
Items to bring to your first appointment with me once we have agreed to go ahead are: |
| Your official birth certificate if born in Australia, or a certified copy obtained from Births Death Marriages in the state of your birth, | |||
| If previously married, evidence of - Divorce, Death, or Nullity (obtained from Family Court in the state where you were divorced, etc), | |||
| Any special words, verses or vows that you would like to include, | |||
| Your deposit of $100. | ![]() |

Visitors from overseas will need:
|
|||
| All of the above, however:
|
|||
| Your official birth certificate OR your passport, | |||
| All documents in a foreign language must be translated into English and have an official translator's certificate attached. | |||
| It is important to check with your local authorities before you leave home to ensure that an Australian marriage has the same legal status in your country.
You will also need to apply for an official registered Marriage Certificate from the Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages - I can help you with this. All wedding plans can be arranged from your country of origin. Please contact me by email, fax or telephone for details regarding lodging the Notice of Intended Marriage Form and accompanying documentation, etc.
